WELCOME TO TEXAS MEDICAL HYPNOSIS.
Hypnosis – the REAL definition:
Many of us are familiar with the misleading images of hypnosis portrayed by Hollywood cinema, the media and even some pop-culture publications. Some of you may even have attended the performance of a “stage hypnotist”. But of course, this is no more real than a charismatic magic show. You cannot be forced to cluck like a chicken or act like a fool and so on. The reality is no one can make you do anything (period). And real hypnosis involves nothing magic or mystical - it's actually a function of cognition and physiology. Hypnosis is quite simply an altered state of consciousness with an intense focus. You always know what is going on, you are always aware and able to act as you wish. By this understanding of the real definition of hypnosis consider this: children are often in a state of “hypnosis”: one example is that of a child so engrossed in the toys he/she is playing with that they are completely unaware of anything other than what they are doing: "an altered state of consciousness with an intense focus". Likewise, by this same definition, it can be argued that in moments where we are faced with an event that threatens our life or safety we may be in a type of hypnotic state. All hypnosis is “self-hypnosis” and yes, you can learn to do it for yourself as well. Albeit amazing, there is nothing supernatural about what the brain is doing. It learns constantly, and you can teach it to do much more than you may think.
